Boomerang Theater: Weekend of October 3rd-4th

Yogi Berra and Yogi Bear...was there ever a connection?

Image
With the passing of legendary MLB star, Yogi Berra, one may wonder if Yogi Bear was perhaps named after Yogi Berra.  Well let's find out together, shall we? First of all, the name "Yogi" is actually a name that means one who practices yoga.  Because of the way Berra would sit, his friends began giving him the nickname, Yogi. Yogi Bear was a character based off of another celebrity, Art Carney.  This is more noticeable in both the clothes Yogi wore and the voice that Daws Butler gave to him.  Eventually, Butler took that voice and made it his own to sound longer, bigger, and rounder.  So personality wise, Yogi Bear was more of a ripoff to Art Carney. This is where name association becomes confusing because Berra sounds like Bear and vise versa.  This has caused some confusion at times.  Yogi Berra himself claimed that Hanna-Barbera stole the name Yogi Berra just to make it their own, so he threatened to sue them.  However, the case...

New Promo for Be Cool Scooby-Doo..Will Scooby and Wabbit air on Boomerang?

Image
Be Cool Scooby-Doo is set to air October 5th, but promos were being shown to say it will air on Cartoon Network as opposed to Boomerang.  7pm ET on Cartoon Network as a matter of fact. Which asks the question: with Wabbit also premiering currently on Cartoon Network too, did they made a last minute change with both shows and thus these shows are only airing on Cartoon Network as opposed to the planned airings on Boomerang? Well here's what we do know:  Boomerang made a major deal for many new half hours from WB Animation, so that's out of the question.  Bunnicula hasn't premiered or has a set premiered date, so that's the next show to keep an eye out for.  We've also seen promos for Wabbit on Boomerang for it airing over there.  Now if that promo is still airing on Boomerang, then for sure, Wabbit is still planned for October.  Scooby-Doo has had no promotions on Boomerang whatsoever.  NONE!  So there is a chance where they made that dec...

Next weekend's Boomerang Theater (Sept. 26-27) and What's up with "Wabbit"?

Image
Nothing new is going on with Boomerang again.  So I'm just going to fill you in with the next two movies for Boomerang Theater Saturday: Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase Sunday: Tom and Jerry: Robin Hood and his Merry Mouse As always the movie starts at 9am ET and each of these movies will be followed by classic Looney Tunes shorts from the end of the movie until 11am ET. Most of the excitement is happening over on Boomerang's sister network, Cartoon Network.  The classic Looney Tunes have returned, but what's more, the premiere of Wabbit is starting on Monday the 21st of September at 5pm ET.  In order to debunk any rumors about Boomerang not airing Wabbit, yes as far as I know unless something changed, Wabbit is still set to air October 5th.  This may be just a preview or promo for both Wabbit and Boomerang, but we won't know until it airs.   Stay with us for the latest updates on Wabbit and other Boomerang shows. Wabbit to preview on Cartoon Network

Image
We don't usually cover Cartoon Network as it is a separate network from Boomerang, but the new Bugs Bunny series, Wabbit, will premiere on Cartoon Network this Monday at 5pm ET.  This is a sneak peak of what's to air on Boomerang.  We didn't want to post this at first unless it can be confirmed, but this video linked below is proof enough. In addition, we also believe that the classic Looney Tunes shorts will also return to Cartoon Network starting on Monday at 9am ET.  It's not 100% guaranteed though. Many Looney Tunes series air daily on Boomerang including the classic cartoons Wabbit is set to premiere on Boomerang October 5th at 8pm

2nd Trailer for next Top Cat film released

Image
Top Cat returns to the big screen...in Spanish speaking territories that is.  Warner Bros. Pictures of Latin America had released a second trailer to the upcoming new film, Don Gato: El Inicio de la Pandilla (which translates to Top Cat: The Home of the Gang).  The film will be released October 30th.  No English dub has been announced at this time.  Click here to check it out:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=ngFjXFxrG8o Top Cat aired on Boomerang for many years until the recent rebrand.  Originally produced by Hanna-Barbera, this series involves a group of Ally Cats in the big city led by Top Cat always coming up with the latest schemes to get rich, but Officer Dibble always gets in the way. What's your first impression?  Good or Bad?

New Pokemon series set for October

Image
Okay trainers, time for the next Pokemon series.  Preceding Pokemon XY will be Pokemon XY and Z .  The series is set to premiere October 29th at 7pm in Japan. It's pretty much where the show will leave off when XY comes to an end.  You can still see the adventures of Ash, Serena, Clemont, Bonnie, and of course...Pikachu.  As usual, they will face off against Team Rocket but also run into new trainers and Pokemon.  One such Pokemon that is grabbing everyone's attention is the different forms of Zygarde (hence the Z in the title).  You can see the Japanese promo right now if you like: It is unknown when the English dub will be as we are still in the XY episodes for now.  So American fans will just have to wait for XY and Z for a little while longer (although fan subs will probably be available). Pokemon airs Monday through Friday at 6pm ET on Boomerang

Merv Adelson, co-founder of Lorimar Television (responsible for helping Rankin-Bass's Thundercats), dies

Image
Merv Adelson, the co-founder of Lorimar Television, passed away on Tuesday .  The studio he helped form was responsible for shows such as Dallas and Knotts Landing, but for this blog's sake, Lorimar helped with co-production with Rankin-Bass's Thundercats series when Lorimar acquired Telepictures who owned Rankin-Bass. Thundercats aired briefly on Boomerang in 2011 in conjunction with the new series of the same name on Cartoon Network.

Boomerang Theater weekend Sept 19-20

Image
Not a lot of news with Boomerang, but I'm happy to reveal the next two movies for this weekend's Boomerang Theater. Saturday: Tom and Jerry the Lost Dragon Sunday: Scooby-Doo! The Music of the Vampire All movies start at 10am ET followed by classic Looney Tunes cartoons from the end of the film until 11am ET. In interest news, it seems Nickelodeon wants to get into the competition with hints of a channel of some sorts called The Splat.  While it is interesting to hear that they are interested in reruns of old Nicktoons like Rugrats and Hey Arnold, this blog is only dedicated to Boomerang, so don't expect any updates on here. Stay with us for the latest Boomerang and Boomerang characters related news.

Pokemon Go to Launch in 2016

Image
The game that encourages trainers to catch em all is getting even bigger.  A new app for android and iPhone called Pokemon Go will be available in 2016.  This app will allow you to actually catch Pokemon in the real world.  According to their website, you need to buy a specific device like a Bluetooth that will detect any Pokemon in your area.  With your camera, this app will let you see these virtual Pokemon, making the game more realistic than ever, Next year will mark 20 years since the first Pokemon video game has been released.  More details to be announced on a later date. Pokemon airs every weekday at 6pm ET on Boomerang.

New Christmas Blu-ray to Include Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol

Image
Nobody really wants to talk about Christmas.  In fact, some may even threaten those who are talking Christmas when it's really time to get ready for Halloween.  Today, however, Dreamworks is re-releasing the Christmas specials they own as part of their acquisition of Classic Media.  The collectors edition bundle, however, includes some bonus specials including Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol.   While it is unknown if Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol ever aired on Boomerang, we do know that the TV Mr. Magoo cartoons did air on Boomerang as part of a deal they made with Classic Media.  That deal has since been long gone though. Of course, none of the other specials have ever aired on Boomerang as they had special deals of their own.  For example, CBS still has exclusive TV rights to Rudolph, Frosty, and Frosty Returns while two of Disney's TV stations, ABC and ABC Family, hold the TV rights to Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Since the re-brand, the...

Boomerang Schedule Updates: Johnny Test Baby Looney Tunes in.....Chowder OUT! EDIT: Pet of the Week OUT TOO!

Image
Here are your schedule changes you need to know about Boomerang: First the major news is that Johnny Test will replace the Pet of the Week block at 5pm.  There will also be two hours of Courage the Cowardly Dog starting at 3PM ET. This is Johnny Test's first appearance on Boomerang.  Originally airing on Teletoon, this hit show was very popular on Cartoon Network.  The series has since been cancelled.  While this site is to be non-biased, we will say that Johnny Test has very big controversy about it being an excellent show (unlike current shows like Adventure Time). Several changes are being made for weekday mornings.  Scooby-Doo Where Are You (I THINK...I'm not sure) is no longer on weekday mornings (but still airs on weekends).  Chowder is also off the schedule.  Replacing them are two Looney Tunes Shows.  Baby Looney Tunes makes a return to Boomerang at 8am ET.  Followed by Sylvester and Tweety Mysteries at 9am ET.  I...

Flintstones Theme Park Closing

Image
For my first story on this blog, it is unfortunately some sad news if you live in the South Dakota area (or if you love The Flintstones for that matter).  According to KDLT News, The Flintstones Bedrock City Theme Park and Campground has been sold and will be closing its doors on Monday .  The park was sold for $1.5 million to a hotel company called Custer Hospitality.  The campgrounds will remain open however, and there is still interest in keeping the actual park open, but the new owners will have to renegotiate The Flintstones license with Warner Bros, who currently owns all Hanna-Barbera properties. This park has been open for 50 years now, and is based off the first ever prime time cartoon series, The Flintstones, which lasted for 6 seasons followed by various reboots and constant reruns. Another Flintstones Theme Park operates near the Grand Canyon, but the owners there also decided to call it quits and is up for sale at about $2 million.  Again, licen...

First Post: Welcome to my Official Unofficial Blog about Boomerang

Image
Hi Folks, and welcome to my first blog dedicated to the only channel that brings you cartoons 24 hours 7 days a week.  Boomerang got its roots in 2000 as both a block on Cartoon Network and a channel dedicated to Turner's large selection of classic iconic cartoons like Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, Scooby-Doo, and more.  Today, Boomerang wishes to expand to new shows and make the classic characters such as Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Tom and Jerry, and Scooby-Doo the stars of the channel. This blog is to give everyone news such as schedule updates and new shows coming to Boomerang.  In addition, this blog is a celebration of the shows that are airing or previously airing on Boomerang as well as a look back at the old Cartoon Network (roughly 1992-2004) before everything shifted over to Boomerang.   Boomerang's official website  can be found here. Shameless plug in relation (and inspiration) is my friend, Josh's, blog about Toonami ; similar to what we'r...
